ooo ooo owl cake
My son was turning one and he goes crazy for owls. quirky huh. I tend to go over the top for my kids birthdays. But owls aren't that popular, so we had to make everything from scratch.
I made a double recipe chocolate cake. I found two med sized glass bowls in my cupboard. Greased the bowls and one small glass loaf pan. I poured in batter 3/4 of the way in. I let them bake approx. 35 min.
I then let them cool approx 5min before dumping them out on cutting board. then I placed them in the freezer for 20 min. till firm.
I placed the two bowl shaped on top of each other to make an oval then cut the corners off to make the ear shape off of the loaf shaped cake. I placed three kabob sticks in them to hold it steady. I frosted it with white and brown frosting, mixing the two to add a feather look to tummy.
I used dried apricots for the beak and talons, dried bananas with dabs of icing for the eyes and mixed nuts for the nest.
Good luck with your own Owl cake!
