Percy Birthday Cake

My son is a huge Thomas the Tank Engine fan with Percy being his favourite character hence me creating a Percy cake for his 2nd Birthday.

The cake is made up of 2 layers-the bottom a simple rectangular madeira sponge and the second a rectangular chocolate sponge.Using the more solid madeira sponge as the base,I shaped the chocolate sponge into Percy’s body.To achieve Percy’s body shape,I drew an outline onto baking parchment then used it as a stencil.

Once I was happy with the shape,I covered the whole cake with chocolate butter icing.

To decorate the cake I used ready to roll white fondant icing.I bought (off of ebay),a small pot of green food colouring gel as I find this gives a better colour than liquid food colouring and doesn’t make the icing sticky to handle.I covered the whole cake with the now green icing then used ready to roll coloured fondant icing to add the red, black and yellow details. For Percy’s face,I cut a circle out of white icing then for the finer details-such as his eyes, mouth etc and outlining other areas,I used a black food colouring pen (again purchased off of ebay).

  1. It looks amazing and the most achievable at home cake I’ve found on the internet. Do you have any further details on the cake recipe? Thanks
