Pixie Hollow Birthday Cake

My 6 year old daughter designed her Birthday cake and assisted with making the flowers and leaves from gum paste. She helped with the dusting to ensure the flowers sparked with a touch of fairy dust. ie. Snowflake edible dusting powder. The fairies had to be in the air, with clouds behind them. The cakes were round but on a floral shaped board to provide an additional garden like flavour. The top tier was left open to accept candles and the sentiment.

The fondant was air brushed with edible food colouring to provide the transition from garden to sky. More fondant was applied after to represent the puffy clouds.

The cake was vanilla with one layer of chocolate filling, another layer of cherry filling and a final layer of vanilla filling. Both tiers were of the same flavour combinations.

I made a second small upper tier cake so after the children’s party was complete, and the op tier eaten. I replaced the top tier with a freshly decorated top tier identical to the first shown here, and put the cake out for the family gathering later that afternoon.

The cake was a big hit at both parties. There was lots of cake to spare.
