Princess Jasmine & Cinderella Cake

For my daughter’s 4th birthday she wanted a Princess theme. I looked everywhere for a birthday cake that was unique but in my price range. Then I remembered the year before she had a barbie (where the skirt is the cake). I thought…hmmm I can do that. Although I was a little scared…I had never attempted anything close to this. I’ve made regular 9×13 cakes with no decor.

I used a angelfood cake pan. (the upside down pineapple cake pans). I then used 1 box of yellow cake for Cinderella & 1 box of chocolate cake for Jasmine. I added 1 snack pack of banana cream pie pudding to the yellow cake mix & 1 fudge snack pack of pudding to the chocolate cake mix. When adding the pudding it’s hard to tell when the cake is done cause it stays extremely moist, so you always have something showing on the toothpick. It took longer than box directions to cook. I just kept a close eye on them.

Once the cakes were done I used a sharp warm bread knife to level off the bottom of the cakes. I then set them on a wire rack & added the barbies then let them cool.

I then made a buttercream frosting (from a package) & added the powdered food coloring. I frosted the cakes the appropriate colors then used a star tip to add designs in random spots on Jasmine’s dress. I then used a pipping tip to add swirl designs to Cinderella’s dress. The mouse with Cinderella came with her so I just pressed it into the side of the cake for extra detail.

The cakes were a huge hit! Everyone loved them! I was so proud…Like I said, I had never made anything other than your typical cake in a pan.
