This was the first time I have tried a 3 dimensional cake.it was for my cousin's birthday. He is a huge star wars fan.
I started off by baking 4 8 1/2" cakes, 2 small loaf cakes and 1 Pyrex bowl cake.
After I got the cakes out of the oven I froze them over night until assembly the next afternoon. While the cakes were coming back to room temp I started making the icing. which is just a basic recipe of shortening, almond flavoring and powder sugar, water to thin.
I put 2 layers together then a round cake board, 2 more layers and a round cake board then the Pyrex bowl. I inserted 3 bamboo skewers through the cake to keep it from shifting. the legs were crafted from the two loaf pans and also attached with skewers that were cut in half.
all of the details I did free hand by looking at a picture of R2.
