Race Track Cake

My Son loves Lightning McQueen and Mater and just had to have a "Race Track Cake"

I made the cake the easy way: I used 2 Duncan Heinz cakes. I used chocolate and white and poured the chocolate cake batter mix into the pan first, then I placed the white cake batter mix. I then took a knife and swiped it through the cake going through both layers making a swirling effect. ( Like a marble cake)

Once the cake was cooled I covered the cake with a buttercream icing. I made Marshmallow Fondant for the racing stripes and painted the black icing squares onto the rolled rectangular fondant. Once the racing stripes were complete I placed it onto the cake.

Next I made a cardboard ring for a template for the road I centered it in the cake. Then I sprinkled black sugar sprinkles into my template. The sprinkles will stick to the buttercream icing.

I finished off the edges and cleaned up the cake by icing the remainder of the cake with the green grass coloured icing. I used smarties to add some colour to the edges of the cake. I bought some cars from Wall-Mart and I made the flags out of paper.

My son went crazy! He was still asking about his Race Car cake weeks after the party.!
