Racing Cake

by Tracy
(Katy, Tx)

I made this cake for my nephew.

This is a yellow cake with chocolate icing. I baked the cakes in two dark coated round pans. I let them cool for 2 hours on the counter. I set the cakes side by side to form the track and the figure 8 for his 8th birthday. After shaving the cake for a flat surface, I used the shavings to form the racing ramp.

I iced the entire cake. Graham cracker crumbs were used for the gravel/dirt on the track. Two toothpicks were used to make the checkered flags. I used sticker name tags and colored the checkers on with a black sharpie then stuck them to the toothpicks.

The roadsters are simple trucks fro Wal-Mart. Green food coloring was used to color the grass in the center of the track. Yellow food coloring was used for the writing.
