Rainbow cake

This was a simple idea for a rainbow cake and much easier than cutting a rainbow arch out of baked cake. I made a large rectangle butter cake, you can make your own from scratch or I used a packet butter cake saves time and you know it will cook perfectly and then I made blue butter icing using margarine and blue food dye i used quite a lot of dye as the icing looks quite green until you have the right consistency. I then covered entire cake I then had to sort through 5 packets of smatie packets(time cosuming get the kids help they will enjoy sorting and perhaps nibbling a few smarties) to separate all the colours into groups,
I then started making a rainbow arch from the bottom of the cake and continued each arch using two rows of each colour until at least half of the cake was covered in a rainbow arch, I then placed fairy floss around the cake for clouds and i used a small treasure box filled with gold coins for the pot of gold. I would highly recommend placing the fairy floss clouds 5 minutes before lighting the candles and serving as the fairy floss will melt and turn into sticky sugar.
