Rowena's Baby Shower Cake

by Hope

My good friend from work was having a baby shower. She was having a boy so I wanted to give this cake a fun theme yet a little more blue than any other color. The cake is made up of a 6", 2-8" layers, and 2-10" layers. The flavors were lemon, orange, and strawberry cake. A simple buttercream was used with extract of choice. I covered the cakes in fondant icing and applied various fondant cutout shapes. I bonded them to the cake with royal icing. And the borders are colored buttercream. The decorations at the top of the cake were picked up from my local bake store Party Cakes'n Things...very inexpensive.
However...since the time of making this cake I have started using water to bond fondant to a cake. It sticks better, gives off a smoother look, and if you get a little on the outer part of the decoration no one will ever know but you. This cake was the life of the party.
