Spider Cake

by Jakia

I made this for my neighbours’ grandson as he loves anything creepy, especially spider, he loved it so much, and he didn't want to cut it, let alone share it with all of us!!

The cake is a basic sponge cake, with a buttercream and raspberry jam filling. The cake was then covered with white sugarpaste icing using a basic recipe. I then cut a strip of contrasting red sugarpaste and attached this to the side of the cake. A spider was made using black sugarpaste, for the body and the legs and writing icing used to create webs and the spiders’ eyes. I then used writing icing to write Justin’s name on top of the cake!

This cake certainly wasn’t sweet and the most enjoyable one I have made so far! I’m not a professional cake maker, but I usually do cakes as presents for friends or take to work, or sell for charity.
