Star Cake

This is my FIRST ever attempt at cake decorating. My son saw a cake similar to this in a Wilton cake decorating catalogue and this is my version!

I used a regular 2 layer cake mix box. And used 2 9" round cake pans to cook it in. I put them together with icing in the middle. I then iced the whole cake white. I separated the buttercream icing so I could make several different colours. I used a star cookie cutter to make the smaller stars that are around the cake and used the same cookie cutter to do the middle star but just adjusted it to make the star bigger. All the stars are filled in with the small star tip in different colours. I accented around the base and in between the stars with the larger star tip. That was it!

The cake looks complicated and is great for beginner's!!!
