Star Wars Storm Trooper and Lightsaber Cake

For his seventh birthday, my son asked for a Star Wars Logo cake. This is what I came up with. It is an 8-in round cake, iced in black butter cream.  The storm trooper is made from white fondant, and cut out using the William Sonoma Star Wars Cookie cutter. I then filled in the detail spots using Wilton Gel icing and a toothpick to get it in the small spaces.

For the logo, I used a golden colored butter cream. I printed the logo out to the correct size, but mirror imaged, and then taped it to the back of a piece of glass. I taped a piece of wax paper to the front, then using a piping bag and a small tip, I filled in the logo. When done, I put it in the freezer until hard, removed the wax paper from the glass, and flipped it over onto the cake, then carefully peeled back the wax paper.

The light sabers were made from small amounts of red, blue and grey fondant. The details on the handles were added using more of the gel icing, and a toothpick.
