This cake was for a friend of mine. It was their daughter's 1st birthday.
The cake bottom is just a rectangle cake that I made from a 11x15 pan and is two layers. It is frosted with buttercream tinted a sky blue. The side decorations are tinted yellow to resemble sun rays - kinda! and then I added some flowers for extra color.
The inner banner is just white buttercream thinned, to resemble clouds.
The sun is made in a 4" pyrex dish and I built up the top with icing to make it more rounded. Then I iced it with buttercream tinted bright yellow and decorated it with icing tinted orange and alternated yellow and orange for the sun bursts. The sun looked a little plain to me so I added a pair of glasses and smile with black icing. I also made a smash cake that was her own individual sun cake just like was on the big cake.
