I made this Super Mario Wii birthday cake for our daughter’s 5th birthday. She is a huge Super Mario Brothers fan. I started out asking her what she wanted. She told me she wanted lava on it and a fortress. Since I knew I was covering it in marshmallow fondant I went ahead and bought The Mat by Sweetwise.
I made it 16 inch round. I bought the characters for the cake off of Amazon. For around the cake I made hills, pipes, piranha plants, blocks, coins….pretty much anything I could think of in the game. Lol. It was a lot of fun! I also made white chocolate Wii remotes for on the cake. That was my favorite part actually and I made milk chocolate mustache pops.
When I got to thinking about the fortress I figures the easiest way to make it would be out of gingerbread. So, that’s what I did. I “glued” the pieces together with royal icing. Not pictured, I added a flag with a 5 and a banner that said Happy Birthday Andrea.
She absolutely loved it, which is what I was aiming for.
