Sweet 16 Birthday Cake
This was one of the funnest cakes I have done in quite some time!
I have always wanted a reason to do one of this 'Topsy turvy cakes'
but never had one.
I learned a lot with this one!.
Three tiers, each three layers of chocolate cake with choc/rasp mousse covered with buttercream and then with fondant!
This was a difficult one for me to figure out.
I cut each cake to a slant, and then scooped a hole into the that cake the size of the cake that I was setting on top. (2nd photo)
Then I would set the next cake into the hole. This is how they were set strong and did not slide at the slant!
The topper: ( photo 3)
I made the 16 out of gumpaste and painted with food color. All the "Bubbles were fondant with shimmery edible glittler.
The banner at the bottom was made seperately out of fondant and hand painted. I really didn't see that writing "Happy Birthday Sam" would fit on the cake!
The crown and the wands were plastic Walmart toys I found that added a fun look!
The Stars, Diamonds, and circles were all fondant.
One more added touch was that I stuck a few little round mirrors on the center cake with buttercream icing.
It took two days, but was a BLAST to create!! This is all my own design taken from many different ideas in my CRAZY head.
I hope you all like it!
Rochelle
