Train Cake

Train Cake

I made this train cake for my son's second birthday. Thanks to this website I gathered up many ideas on making this cake. It was a huge hit and everyone was taking pictures of it.

I started by making yellow cake mix in mini loaf pans. I used two boxes of mix and made 6 mini loafs.

While they cooled I covered a large flat piece of wood my husband gave me to hold the cake with tin foil. Then I covered it with a thin layer of chocolate icing. Then I got coconut and used food coloring to make it green for the grass.

Then I laid the tracks with pretzel sticks and black twizzlers.

Then I started to ice the mini loafs. To make the engine I cut into the mini loaf halfway and then iced it. I used construction paper and a cotton ball for the smoke stack. I used Oreos for the wheels. Then used various other candies to decorate the cars. I also used pretzel sticks to connect the cars.

I used whoppers as boulders, pretzel sticks as logs, chocolate sprinkles as coal.

It took about 2 hours to decorate and it was so much fun!
