Gears of War
I made this cake for our neighbor's son. I have made all of his cakes since he was 4 years old. He brought me over a picture and I can look at a picture and copy it pretty good on to a cake. I used a wilton 13x9 cake pan, a betty crocker chocolate and yellow cake mix and swirled the two to make a marble cake. I made chocolate ganache icing by melting hersheys milk choclate chips and heavy whipping cream.I covered the whole cake and let it set up. I took a toothpick and dotted a guide of the design freehand. I used a tube of ready made red icing and filled in the design. I used a wilton bag to pipe the icing on the cake and a toothpick to move the icing in the small areas since the icing was stiff I could move it pretty easy. I was pleased with it, but it was missing something. I thought it needed a shiny look to it, so I took wilton red paste food coloring and mixed it with karo syrup to give it the shiny blood effect. It worked nicely! I used a wilton bag and a small writing tip to pipe happy birthday and the name on the cake.
