Winnie and Friends Cake
I made this Winnie the Pooh and friends cake for my son's first birthday. He loves Pooh! It was pretty easy.
I used 2-8 inch round pans to make the bottom layer then a 6 inch layer on top (I did have to trim about an inch off that-I should have used a smaller size pan!). All the bugs are wooden (as are the trees). I bought them at the local craft store and pressed them into the cake (I used toothpicks on the bugs that I stuck into the cake and cupcakes).
I used yellow fondant to make the yellow birthday banner. I tried to get some that weren't too girly looking. I think this is a cute cake for a boy. If you have a girl you can easily change the colors of the frosting. I matched the frosting to what my son wore that day (orange and blue).
A good trick is to stick the cake in the fridge as you're working on it to let it all set up. After I finished I pressed the bugs in and put it back in the fridge and that way the next day everything held up and stayed in/on the cake.
