Army Tank Cake

My 6 year old son, Brandon, wanted to have an Army party. Originally, I was going to make a 9×13 inch cake with chocolate icing and simply sit army figures and small tanks all over it. The night before the party, I just happened to come across this website and decided that Brandon needed a real tank cake.

I baked two chocolate cake mixes in a 9×13 metal pan and a glass Pyrex loaf dish. I cut a piece of 1 1/2 inch wide cake from the center of the smaller cake and positioned the two pieces upside down in the center of the larger cake. I used one and a half containers of vanilla icing tinted light green and the other half container tinted light brown.

I used Oreos for wheels, printed paper letters to spell U.S. ARMY (remove before serving), crushed graham crackers for dirt and a cocoa cereal straw for the gun. Place cereal straw in tank minutes before serving because the weight of it will make it slowly fall down.

It turned out great, Brandon loved his cake!
