Beach Cake

I made this cake for my son’s 1st birthday.

When I found out I was pregnant we went with an underwater fish theme for the nursery and figured to stick with it for the first birthday party as well.

I decorated the cake on the water side with pipping gel that I tinted light blue (just some advice I wish I would have thought of before is to put a border on the cake so the gel doesn’t run) and I base iced the rest then added gold sanding sugar to make it look like sand.

I went to my local dollar store and bought a toy sand box kit that had a sand castle in it. I washed it first and then sprayed it with pam and added peanut butter ball mix.

(I don’t know if many have heard of this. My grandmother used to make them all the time for the holidays. It just peanut butter, graham crackers and butter all mixed together and it looks like sand).

I made that the day before the party and let it sit in the frig in the sand castle until right before the party started. The bucket is a cupcake with the pipping gel inside to look like water.

Then for the fish cake for my son to dig into it’s a 8″ round cake cut in half to make the body and then I made a loaf cake and cut it into triangles to make the fins and a rectangular piece for the top fin.
