Butterfly Cake

This is a very easy to make butterfly cake. I made them for each of my daughters first birthday to match the 1st (girl) birthday theme we bought at a party store.

As always I never buy a shaped pan-I always look online for ideas of how to use pans I have-this one was two 9×13 cake pans. As always I’m pressed for time so I cooled them in fridge-and this too helps when shaping-I don’t freeze because I find it takes longer too work with and also doesn’t taste the same.

Once cooled I cut 1″ short-ways from one side-this is the body of the butterfly. Then I made an x in the other part. This will make 4 equal triangles.

One a board place the 1inch body in middle. Then take one of the triangles and lay the pointed side to touch the body-each on a side-these are the wings. Then use filling to fill in and and the second top layer to it.

I used canned icing tinted with light and darker shades of purple and pink. I used the star tip to fill in as it gives affect to it and so much easier than having to try to make it flat!

I used purple pipe cleaners for the antennas-just stuck them into top. I used M&M for eyes. It may sound difficult but trust me all the cakes I make are so easy. I find a lot of ideas on this site & seach for shaped cakes ideas.
