Cat Cake

I needed to make a birthday cake for my uncle (57) and cousin (11). With the huge age gap and a gender gap I had a hard time thinking of a theme until I remembered that they are both cat lovers. This cat cake was very easy to make.

I just baked two 12-inch rounds and stacked them. I put a base coat of white buttercream on it. Then I mapped out the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and whiskers. Then I filled my piping bag with two colors of buttercream – white and brown. I didn’t stack the colors; I put the white on one side of the piping bag (the left) and the brown on the other (the right).

Then I used a grass/hair tip (Wilton’s is number 233) and piped away. Lastly I added the facial features and the text. This wasn’t a complex cake to make but it was very labor intensive.
