Coolest 3D Fire Truck Cake

I have been making cakes for about a year or so, just now and again for birthdays and such, but this was my first 3d cake. I made this 3D Fire Truck Cake for my son’s 1st birthday.

I made it from one 12X18 cake cut into strips of 3X12. Each layer rested on cardboard so that when we cut it the pieces were small enough and once each layer was gone just removed the cardboard and cut into the next layer. There were wooded dowels stuck through different parts of the cake to help keep it together.

For the covering I just made homemade icing colored red and yellow and I used the star tip and made little stars all over the cake (of course this was time consuming but quite a bit cheaper that fondant). The windows and the hoses were made with fondant. The ladder was made from the little packs of stick pretzels, and the wheels where chocolate donuts.
