Coolest Alf Birthday Cake

I made this Alf birthday cake for my daughter who was turning 6. She watches Alf on DVD and loves him! I was not really sure what to do but decided to go with an edible image and make the cake appear as a TV with the image being the screen.

I started by making an 11X15 sheet. Once baked I cooled, leveled and wrapped it, then put it in the freezer. The night before the party I iced it with white homemade butter cream. Then I applied the edible image on the top. Next I used some sugar sheets and cut small thin strips of black to frame the image. I tinted some fondant brown to go around the outer edges.

Next I tinted some icing with black to get the grey and added that to the side for the “control panel”. I used some Oreo cookies for knobs and piped simple white lines on top for + and – as volume knobs and some wafer cookies as speakers. Along the bottom I placed malt balls for a border. Last I wrapped pretzel rods in foil and attached to the top of the cake as antennas. Placed the number 6 candle and had a happy girl. I was trying many things I had ever done before but it was very easy!
