This Ariel Under the Sea Birthday Cake was fun to make and we have been asked to make it twice for other girls. This was for my daughter’s 4th birthday but we made it for a 8 and 11 year old as well.
Box cake mix was used in a large oval pan. Frosting is “decorators frosting”. We have an octopus mold that we used to make the mountain Ariel sits in – William Sonoma – but you can stack pieces of cake to make the hills. Melted chocolate was used for the fan coral.
Printed pics of coral from on line and used wax paper to cover then melted chocolate in plastic bag an cut off tips of bag and traced. Tube coral are drinking straws covered in chocolate melts and fish are made from Jelly Bellies and marker to draw scales and face. Sea urchins are made with chocolate melts and green organic pasta. Shells are pasta shells colored with marker. Ariel and Sebastian are bath tub toys.
