Cute Homemade Baby Einstein Caterpillar Birthday Cake

I love to be crafty and creative but lets face it, it’s also great to copy someone else’s idea. Like many others on this site, I went out and bought Wilton’s ball cake pan. I used half a ball for each section of the body. I used 3 boxes of cake mix, the darker colored icing were chocolate cake and the yellow and green iced cakes were yellow cake. In the past I have purchaced cans of icing and colored them myself but that’s time consuming and messy plus no canned icing tastes yummier than the butter cream frosting that my local Publix grocery store makes. They sell their frosting, colored and all. Kinda pricey but it’s awesome.

Since my son was turning 2 I used the candles as his antennae and the eyes and smile were made with store bought icing gel. This Baby Einstein Caterpillar Birthday Cake is a simple cake to make and this cake is a crowd pleaser, for sure!
