Cool Homemade Baby Shoe Cake

I was asked by my God Daughter to make a cake for her babys first birthday she wanted one with baby shoes on it! I first had to find a template for me to use.I had no success at the local cake decorating shops so I went on line.I found a template for felt baby shoes and I adapted this to make a pair of fondant shoes for the top of my cake.

First I made  my usual madeira cake and filled it and covered it with butter cream placed it on a pink cake board and then covered it in white fondant icing.

I made the shoes from pink modelling paste following the template using decorators glue to hold it in place I then left them overnight to dry using tin foil inside to keep the shape. Once dry I dusted them with pink sparkly dust to gie them a sheen.I made a white bow from modelling pasts to cover the strap and used a small white pearl dragee for the fastener, then placed a small white flower on the front.

I tied a pink satin ribbon around the base of the cake and  secured it with another slightly larger white flower.Placed pink flowers around the sides of the cake and pink pearl dragees around the top.

I made some fondant letters spelling out the babys name. Then arranged everything on top.

This is one of the prettiest cakes I have made, and I would certainly make it again, everyone loved it.

I have kept the template for a later use should I need to make one again.Although I made it for a birthday it wold make a lovely christening or baptism cake and the shoe can be decorated in many different ways to suit the occasion and the sex of the baby.
