Cool Homemade Baseball Field Cake

For my nephew Theo’s 3rd birthday, he asked for a Baseball Field Cake. I baked an 8″ round and an 8″ square chocolate cake. After they cooled I wrapped and froze them. Frozen cakes are much easier to handle and decorate. I cut each cake in half and put round and square together, joining them at the cut edge.

Then I filled the cake with chocolate icing and topped it with the second layer. I frosted the top of the cake with chocolate icing, and sides with white butter cream tinted green. And used a star tip for the grass. The white lines were piped on to complete the field.

My husband printed a scoreboard on the computer. We taped it to a piece of cardboard and 2 lollipop sticks. I wanted to put some plastic baseball players on the field but couldn’t find any that were the right size.

The birthday boy loved it anyways! It was a big hit with everyone.
