Red Bass Guitar Cake

I made this Bass Guitar Cake for my boyfriend’s 23rd. I modeled it off his Ibanez Bass Guitar. I didn’t want to make a life size cake so I found an image of the guitar on the internet and resized it to print out on an A3 sheet of paper. The hardest part was cropping and widening the guitar to proportion.

I baked two caramel mudcakes using a 22 x 22cm square cake pan and a loaf pan. I then cut out the cake using the template I made. I joined the neck to the body using frosting, but I would recommend inserting toothpicks or a skewer between the two cakes to stop the icing from cracking at the join.

The guitar is iced with buttercream frosting and the body ended up a purple colour, as the red colouring I used wasn’t concentrated enough. The neck is frosting mixed with cocoa powder. I used licorice strips for the strings, dark choc Kitkats for the bars, Rolos for the knobs and Chico babies for the tuning knobs (just the torsos) and silver chachous balls.

It went down a treat at the birthday party, there was none left!
