Coolest Blues Clues Cake

I made this Blues Clues cake for my son Christopher, who is an absolute Blue’s Clues fanatic. This was for his 2nd birthday. I wanted to do a cake with a picture of Steve and Blue together, but I wasn’t able to find a very good picture online. So I ended up using two separate pictures.

I printed the pictures on cardstock and cut them out to use as templates. I used black gel icing to outline the pictures, and then watered down and colored icing to use as the filler. This was only my second attempt at making a custom cake like this – my first one was an Avatar: the Last Airbender cake for my then 8 year old son whose birthday was 11 days earlier. It’s a little messy, but I did it all in one day and was getting a bit tired near the end.

The reason I used the watered down icing as “filler” was because I wanted to do something that looked a little smoother than the traditional star method. Christopher really enjoyed his cake.
