Cool Homemade 3D Bulldozer Cake

My son was approaching his 21st and said he would like a bulldozer cake. He works for Caterpillar as a heavy machinery mechanic, so I knew he would pay attention to detail.

My daughter and I spent the morning with all sorts of machinery books, rectangular sponges, yellow icing and licorice covering our dining table.

What also complicated the issue was that at the last moment, we found another mechanic was sharing a 21st, so we made him a roller.

When we brought the cakes out the boys were shocked. My son said that he was joking and never thought I would make him one.

The two birthday boys were so tickled with the cakes, they wouldn’t cut them. They were finally cut about a week later, and I don’t think they were that good by then.

But at least I know they were appreciated.

  1. My wife showed this to me as we were getting ready to celebrate my son’s 1st birthday. Since I worked as a heavy equipment operator for a number of years she thought that I would get a kick out of this. She was right. Your cake is one of the neatest cakes that I have ever seen. I am very impressed with your abilities as a decorator, and by the love that you showed for your 21 yr old. I can understand why he didn’t want to cut it up. Keep up the great work.
