Quick and Easy Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

I really needed a quick and easy cake and this homemade Butterfly cake is what I came up with.

It was my birthday, and my three year old son was so excited about celebrating my birthday. I therefore wanted to make a fun cake myself and save money at the same time

I used one box of Betty Crocker butter pecan flavoured cake mix. This cake was made using half of the batter and, with the remaining half, I made cupcakes.

I baked it in an 9″ round pan and cut it into four pieces to make the shape of the butterfly.

I used vanilla frosting and decorated it with strawberries; I always prefer decorating with fruit rather than candies. For the body and the antennas, I used candy canes which matched perfectly with the color palette.

My son helped with the decoration, putting on the strawberries and the little star-shaped sprinkles, hence the uneven clusters! I actually think it turned out great, visually as well as taste-wise.
