I cheated and used a box cake for this carousel cake for a carnival birthday party. For one layer I made an 8 inch round cake. For the second layer, I used a glass bowl. Using dowels and an empty container (once used for toddler snacks) I inverted the bowl layer onto a round piece of cardboard and placed on top and glued securely.
The decorations were fondant, and the horses attached with royal icing. My daughter was thrilled!
