Cool Homemade Cars Birthday Cake with Cacti

My 4 year old twins desperately wanted a Disney’s Cars birthday party with a race cake, so I decided to do a dirt track scene using some Cars toys as decorations. I baked one 10″x14″ layer and two 9″x13″ layers, stacked them so that they aligned on along the left side of the cake, and then sculpted out the race track with a knife. I also used some of the extra cake pieces to build up a ridge on the left side so that Mater would have a good vantage point!

I frosted the cake and the board with tan buttercream, sprinkled it all over with a mixture of crushed graham and Oreo Thin Crisp crumbs (I pulsed one sleeve of graham crackers and three 100 calorie bags of the Oreos in the food processor), and then added cacti sculpted from Rice Crispy treats that I tinted green.

The kids were thrilled with this Homemade Cars Birthday Cake, and everyone seemed to enjoy it!
