Cool Homemade Buttercream Cars Racetrack Birthday Cake

I started out this Cars Racetrack Birthday Cake by baking two 9×13 cakes and trimming them to fit together to make an 8 by 24. Then I inserted four straws that had been cut the width of the cake in the middle and placed three stacked 6 in. round cakes. The whole thing was crumb coated with white icing on one day and the next finished the decorating. I used a star tip to do the entire cake. The boarder was a large star tip. To do the checkered look on top and on the side I used a ruler and pressed line in the crumb coating and then piped the stars on top of that.

To make the name on top of the cake I enlarged the Cars symbol and used white out over the word Cars and wrote the name in black and then colored over the rest of the white with red to blend it in. Then I hot glued it to at tooth pick to insert at the top of the cake.
