Coolest Castle Cake

My daughter wanted a princess castle cake for her birthday. I looked through the castle cake pictures here on coolest b-day cakes and combined several different ideas.

For the cake, I just made 2 round cakes and stacked them. The turrets are a regular ice cream cone that I pushed down into the cake and then I put a bit of frosting around the edge of the regular cone and turned sugar cones upside down and stuck them in. I saw quite a few places that they covered the cones with icing, but that looked like it would be really messy and also hard to get a nice smooth finish, so I decided to leave them alone. I think with using yellow, they blended in nicely.

I just did some piping with a star tip around each one and a star on the top of each turret and used a large star tip for the “bricks” around the top edge. I piped the windows and door with a writing tip and then the basket weave tip for a bit of “lattice” on the door. It looked a bit plain, so I decided to add a few vines.

I frosted my platter with a light green frosting and then put some dried coconut in a plastic container with green food coloring and shook it. I placed that around the base for “grass”. I used a grass/fur tip and piped grass around the base of the castle and the edge of the road. Then I randomly piped a few star tip flowers on the grass. The road is brown sugar. I found the Cinderella at the dollar store.

My daughter loved it!
