I have wanted to make a hamburger cake since I was a little girl and saw one at a birthday party. I have made a lot of cakes, a lot of great cakes. This cheeseburger cake was so simple and received, by far, the most compliments of any I have ever done! The men at my son’s birthday party were taking pictures with their cell phones and sending them to their friends! Since when do the men care what the cake looks like?!
I looked at a lot of hamburger cakes and picked ideas from the ones I liked best. I was surprised that there were so many different looks for a hamburger. The most important thing I noticed of all the ones I saw was the color of the bun. It really makes a big difference.
I made 2 round cakes for the bun, 1 rectangle cake for the french fries, and 1 round brownie for the hamburger. The onions, lettuce, tomato and cheese were all made from fondant.
The cakes were made ahead of time and frozen and the fondant was also made the day before. On the day of the party I only had to frost the bun and assemble the burger. Piece of Cake!
