Cool Homemade Chef Cookie Monster Birthday Cake Using the old Wilton Cookie Monster Cake Pan

I made this Cookie Monster birthday cake for my sons 3rd birthday. I purchased this 1980’s Wilton Cookie Monster cake-pan off of e-Bay. I used boxed cake (Funfetti) and dyed white frosting Royal Blue. I purchased the Royal Blue food coloring from Michael’s rather than using the grocery store brand in order to get the right shade of Cookie Monster blue – it was great!

I used decorating tip #233 in order to get the fur effect and tip #16 for the stars on the hat. The biggest challenge with decorating this cake was keeping the frosting the right temperature: too cold, it didn’t stick well to the cake, too warm, it was runny and gloppy. If I had to do it all again, I would make my own frosting in order to make it a bit thicker and hopefully avoid some of the temperature issues I had.

Overall the cake was pretty easy to make. It took me less than 2 hours to decorate the whole thing and I received SO MANY compliments. The teenaged employee at the Gym where we held the birthday party even took a picture of it with her camera phone! Now that was a compliment!
