Cute Homemade Cow Birthday Cake for my Son

I made this Cow Birthday Cake for my son’s 2nd birthday. I will attempt to make a John Deere tractor cake for his party! Wish me luck! I got my cow idea from this site. All of the cow cakes are so cute but I loved the way Laura (cake 21) shaped the cows head! So this is my cow!

I used 2 9in round pans: 1 for the body and 1 I cut up to shape the head, feet and ears (I couldn’t get the ears as good as the one on cake 21). I froze the cakes overnight and in the morning I took them out shaped them and applied the crumb coat. I waited an hour or so then iced it. I was short on time or I would have let it sit longer. I used store bought cake mix and icing.I tried to make brown icing by mixing food color but I ended up with this grayish color. I think I will try homemade butter cream next time.

I am new to this and I still have problems with crumbs in my icing! But I think it turned out kinda cute! Thanks to this web site I have gotten some great ideas! And I want to give a big THANK YOU to Laura who made cow cake 21!

  1. You did an awesome job. I, too, am
new to this but am going to give this
a try. My 3 yr old son wants a cow
cake! I like the shape of your face!
