Cute Homemade Dinosaur Birthday Cake

My friend asked me to make her 2 year old son’s cake, of course I did, and this Dinosaur Birthday Cake is the result. I was supposed to use those mint leaves cut in half, BUT I couldn’t get any, so I bought an inch wide licorce and cut triangles.

I also traced a picture of a dinosaur onto waxed paper and cut him in to “sections”, head/neck/body/tail and placed the pieces onto ONE slab cake, this makes it easier to get all of your dinosaur out of ONE cake with less wastage. After cake is cut out, place him back together with icing as “glue” and some long wooden kebab skewers to hold together.

Ice him green and put your licorice pieces in place, you could use TIC TACS for teeth but Braydon scares easily. I made him smile instead. To make “scales” use a butter knife and “tick” the icing in the same direction!

All of the kids LOVED it and the adults were impressed too! (I used a basic butter icing for icing and home brand chocolate cake mix).
