Cute Homemade 2D Dinosaur Cake With Oreo Plates

I used cakes from this site as inspiration for this stegosaurus Dinosaur Cake. It is made from two 9×13″ cakes (Duncan Hines Yellow Cake) placed next to one another. I drew out the dinosaur on tracing paper, cut out, and placed on top of the cakes and cut out the dinosaur.

The tail is shorter than planned because my board was not wide enough. I placed the cut-out cake in the freezer for a couple of hours and then applied the crumb-coat. The colored icings were made with store-bought vanilla icing and Wilton concentrated colorings. I used two different sized star tips for the orange icing and the two smallest tips (#1 and 2) for the mouth and teeth.

The “plates” on the dinosaur’s back were Oreo 100 calorie baked snacks (I got the idea from dinosaur cake#23 on this site, thanks #23!). The tail “spikes” are Sour Patch fruit candies held in place with cut toothpicks. The eye and toes are brown M&Ms.
