Cute Homemade Dora Birthday Cake With Fondant Dora and Boots

This Dora Birthday Cake was a two layered (basic recipe) chocolate cake covered in green-coloured buttercream icing. All of the figurines and decorations on the cake are made from homemade Marshmallow Fondant Icing. To make the fondant, melt marshmallows in the microwave for approximately 30 secs with a small splash of water until they are liquid, then mix in icing sugar until it firms to the right texture.

The tree in the background is made from cake scraps stacked in a pile and then wrapped with some of the fondant, coloured brown. The green of the tree is all fondant, as are the “apples”. The tree is held on the cake with skewers poked through it. I made Dora and Boots in pieces (the head, the body, the arms etc) and then put them together on the cake and put wooden skewers through them to attach them to the cake. The name “Holly” and the number 2 are also made with the marshmallow fondant and cut out with some cookie cutters. Marshmallow fondant keeps in the fridge for a few weeks so I was able to begin constructing all of these figures a few days before the party.

A really effective looking cake that was relatively easy to make!
