Easy DIY Dump Truck Birthday Cake

I made this dump truck birthday cake as a smash cake for my God son’s first birthday! I had been looking at dump truck cakes online trying to find a recipe and some instructions I could follow. I never really found one that I fell in love with so I sketched out a blueprint for my cake and away I went.

I used the smallest cake board and frosted it then sprinkled crushed eddy grahams over it. The truck is made of two cakes that were cut in half stacking the halves on top of one another. Total it was four half sheets high. Then I carved out the basic shape of my truck and started decorating.

The wheels are small chocolate donuts. The only other thing I used to decorate besides the frosting was M&M’s and crushed teddy grahams to make dirt for the back of the truck. I used the triple star tip and a single star tip from Wilton. The yellow and black coloring gel were also Wilton product.

I had so much fun making this cake and I am making another one just like it for another little boy this weekend..along with 60 cupcakes!

  1. I love this cake! It looks great! I have to make my grandsons 2nd birthday cake, and he would go crazy over this cake! Do you still have the blueprints for it? Can you e-mail them to me?
