Cutest Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

I was making an Elmo Birthday Cake for a friend’s son’s 1st birthday party. I first baked 2 cakes in 12×2 inch pans. The one is the bottom layer. The other I used for Elmo. I got a picture off the internet and blew it up to the size I wanted. Then I laid it on the cake and cut it out (you can use an Elmo cake pan, but I didn’t want to spend the extra money to buy one and I like to do it the way I did).

I made a homemade chocolate cake for both pans and homemade butter cream icing. For this cake, I used about 4-5 cups of icing. I separated into bowls and made the colors I needed. I put icing on the bottom layer and then put Elmo candy pieces around the sides. Then I covered the top of the bottom cake with white icing. I then put Elmo’s head on the cake. And then I started decorating him.

I wanted his eyes and nose to stick up, so I took the extra pieces of cake and made them into the shapes I wanted. I placed them on the cake and then put on icing. I started with mouth. And then the nose (a orange/red-just a little bit of read- combo). Next, I did the eyes and I finished with doing a red/orange (just a little bit of orange) combo on Elmo. I used a 16-star tip for that. Then I added the red decorations around the top and bottom of the cake. And finally, I added the happy birthday with candy letters.
