Adorable Homemade Elmo Cake Made With the Wilton 3D Cuddly Bear Mold

This Elmo cake was made for my daughter’s (who is a huge Elmo fan) second birthday. I used the Wilton cuddly 3-D bear mold, but for some reason the cake didn’t fill the entire mold, so I ended up with half a bear.

Short on time, I had to make it work, so I cut of the ears and the nose and leveled the base. To get the really red color I ended up using 2 vials of Wilton’s icing color and some regular food coloring. I used the Wilton tip #233 for fur but the food coloring had liquified the frosting just enough that it wouldn’t hold shape, so I ended up smoothing it on with a spatula.

The nose and eyes are shaped from fondant and the packages are cake pieces cut, stacked and frosted. And although the end result was far from what I had envisioned, my daughter seemed perfectly happy!
