Cute Homemade Fire Engine Birthday Cake

At first I had to look online to get some tips for a Fire Engine Birthday Cake, I found the Betty Crocker website to be very helpful in terms of how to spread icing on easily and without too much mess (especially when working with red icing!).

I made 3 rectangular sized tins of vanilla sponge. Once cooled I cut each sponge in half horizontally and then filled with jam and vanilla butter icing (ended up with three layers). I then cut the top right corner off for the windshield.

I used Toffee Pop cookies for the wheels. Mixed black icing paste into the vanilla icing to create the grey colour. Used vanilla icing for the windshield, red colored vanilla icing for the body. With a plastic bag (I didn’t have a piping bag) I applied the icing and then with a pallet knife I was able to smooth the icing over. This was the tip I got off the Betty Crocker website so helpful.

I used cut up jube lollies for the lights and buttons, licorice string for the hose and tangy orange rods (cut up into 1/4’s) for the ladder.

I had two mini fireman candles and a star to ‘adorn’ the engine.
