Coolest Homemade Penguin Birthday Cake

I made this Penguin birthday cake for a friend’s mom. She loves penguins.

I made a yellow mix cake 9″ x 13″ and a chocolate mix cake 8″ x 8″. I leveled the tops and covered them in homemade buttercream icing, tinted blue with Wilton icing colors. The recipe for my buttercream is from C&H Powdered Sugar.

I made the penguins out of homemade marshmallow fondant a week earlier. I made the snowflake and stars out of fondant also. I painted the stars attached to the floral wires with silver luster dust. You just add a drop of vodka, water, or lemon juice to make it a paint consistency.

I piped the black buttercream icing onto the stars and snowflakes with a small round tip. After it was all assembled, I sprinkled white sparkle flakes to make it shimmer and give the impression of snow falling. I was a big hit and the birthday girl loved it!
