My daughter wanted a cake that looked like a real sand castle.
I used two round cake pans and one 1/2 sheet cake pan. I formed the second and third tiers from the sheet cake. The icing is buttercream and the sand effect was created by crushing graham crackers and vanilla wafers.
For the towers, I used regular and sugar cones, covered in icing and then rolled in the “sand” mixture. I added some chocolate candies around the outside. I also used the extra cake to stuff the cones. The four cones on top were supported by bamboo sticks hidden inside.
