Coolest Jeep Cake

I made this Jeep Cake for my boyfriend on our anniversary. He is crazy about his jeep so I wanted to make a cake modeled after his own car.

I made this cake with two layers of pound cake, a ton of frosting, and MM fondant. I sprayed the fondant red with an edible color spray and made the canvas top out of brown taffy. The windows, the people, and some of the smaller details are made with dyed gum paste.

The remaining lines on the car itself are made mostly of different variations of licorice. I secured most of the licorice to the fondant through a combination of frosting and then looped smaller pieces of licorice over it and stuck them inside the cake. I also used one or two toothpicks, but be careful not to stick them too far or you will forget they are there!

The front lights of the car are various shaped candies I bought at the candy store. The dirt is smashed Oreos and candy rocks. I had to lift my cake for effect, so I recommend using a pan the same size as the cake itself so none of the cake hangs over the edge and starts to sag.

This was my first fondant cake and I am pretty happy with it.
