Cool Homemade Jurassic Cake

I made this Jurassic cake for my son’s 3rd birthday. He loves dinosaurs but I wasn’t sure I could make something that even resembled a dinosaur so I made this.

The base is a 12×18 cake that I leveled off. It is frosted in homemade chocolate buttercream. The volcano is 2 6×2 round cakes. Both were cut in half and I frosted in between the layers so it was like a miniature 4 layer cake. Then I just started shaving down the sides until it looked like volcano. Then I just sat it in the middle of the base.

I mixed powdered sugar and milk until it was the right consistency and colored it with red and orange food coloring. I baked dinosaur shaped cookies on Popsicle sticks and stuck them in beside the volcano. I used chocolate covered peanut clusters for the rocks and graham cracker crumbs for the dirt. It was delicious and my son loved it.
